gETTING Here and AROUND
GETTING HERE
Halifax/Dartmouth offers strong domestic connectivity by air and land, making it an accessible city from major hubs in Canada and the U.S., and closer by plane to Europe than any other major North American city.
The city’s transportation network supports efficient travel for athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters arriving from across Canada, with direct air access to major hubs and straightforward ground transportation to accommodations and the competition venue.
TRANSPORTATION
Air Access
Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) is Atlantic Canada’s primary air hub and provides extensive domestic connectivity across the country. It offers non-stop flights to major Canadian, US, and European cities, including New York, London, and Frankfurt. Located approximately 35 kilometres from Downtown Halifax, the airport is about a 30 to 40-minute drive by car or shuttle and offers Canada Customs services 24/7, as well as U.S. preclearance.
Ground Transportation
Ground transportation between the airport, host hotels, and Lake Banook is simple and efficient:
Airport to Downtown Halifax/Accommodations: approximately 30 to 40 minutes
Accommodations to Lake Banook: approximately 15 to 20 minutes, depending on hotel location
Downtown Halifax to Lake Banook: approximately 15 to 20 minutes
Transportation options include taxis, rideshare services, and charter bus providers for team travel. The Local Organizing Committee will work with partners to coordinate transportation options for officials and athletes as required.
Local Accessibility
Halifax is a compact and highly accessible city, which significantly reduces travel time and complexity during the event. Many participants will be staying within a short drive or transit ride of the venue. The proximity between accommodations, the competition venue, and key amenities allows athletes and officials to focus on performance and recovery, while providing a convenient and low-stress experience throughout the championships.
Halifax is a wonderful city for walking or cycling (bikes and scooters can be rented on the waterfront boardwalk). Strolling from one end of Downtown Halifax to the other takes less than 30 minutes and includes a range of sights, sounds, and major landmarks. Of course, you can always hop in an Uber or Lyft, take a cab, or use public transit if you change your mind about the stroll.
